Shazam! Songs in Yr Pocket.
April 27, 2006 – 11:12 amMarketwatch has a story about new developments with mobile music technology company Shazam.
Shazam launched their music-recognition service for mobile phones four years ago. The service identifies a song by matching its characteristics with those in their database of artists, albums and tracks, using algorithms that convert audio signals into digital code.
Recently, Shazam has added the capability for users to buy music downloads as well.
Now that they’re attaching a purchase function to their service, I hope their song recognition system works well. I’d hate to see lawsuits by users intending to buy a Joan Jett song mistakenly ending up with Britney Spears. Ugh.
